The Proposal
The Time Had Come
The Story, As Told By Danny.
May 16, 2007. Paris
It was Wednesday morning, the sun was shining the traffic was beeping and we had just purchased a French Beret. You see we had decided that today would be the perfect opportunity to engage in some of France's favorite past times, cheese, wine and riots = ).
So armed with our Beret we made it our mission to have as many mini (Aija and I only) riots as possible. First there was one out the front of the Notre Dame Cathedral, then on the train and finally in front of the riot squad (well around the corner where we could see them, and they couldn't see us…because as you know I'm pretty tough, =)….
From there we jumped onto the Metro and made the trip to the underground station beneath the Lourve Museum. Once arriving we spent the day checking out the Mona Lisa, the Italian Sculptures, Egyptian Artifacts, and for me my watch.
That is, with every second that clicked over, every minute that passed my heart began to race that little bit faster. Finally as the sunset arrived, and the last shades of light began to dip behind the French Architecture and fade into the night I knew that it was nearly time… but what if she said No?
Nevertheless up the escalator we went… and out we came to a clear night and the beautifully lit up pyramids of the Lourve…
First of all, we did the good tourist thing and started to take some pictures, before deciding to try out all the features of our digital SLR, or more specifically the self-timer and leaving the shutter open to capture us with just the lighting of the pyramids.
As I reached down to angle the camera I slipped the ring into my pocket, took a deep breath and prayed that she would say yes… we took one photo, and my heart raced, we took another and I felt all the hairs on my arms rise, then another and I knew it was time…
Aija pressed click, and than she jumped beside me as I pulled the ring out of my pocket and let her know just how much she means to me, how happy I'm to have her in my life, and how much I would like her to be my wife, and as I slipped the ring onto the her finger, and let the tears well in my eyes, I felt her hands wrap around my neck, her warm breath on my face, and heard her utter the words yes… right as the camera clicked and we realized that we had captured the most important moment of our lives on camera.
